For me the Grail question is an easy one. I too am searching for my unicorn. Mine takes the form of Creature From the Black Lagoon Pinball. It used to be in a movie theater where I worked while in high school and it is everything awesome in the form of entertainment. If my Grail had to be in the form of an arcade machine I would actually have to say that it is 5 of them. One day I will have The Simpsons, TMNT, Final Fight, NBA Jam, and NARC. Those games have always had a special place in my gaming world and I would love to one day own them all.

Tamara,

If it's truly a MAME cabinet, it shouldn't be too hard to reset. All that is inside of a MAME cabinet is a computer or the guts of a computer removed from the case (as is mine). There should be a fairly easy was to reset it.

Hi,

What a great game cabinet you have!!

We currently have a MAME arcade game cabinet with 1000 games that we bought second hand from someone. The guy told us that we had to be sure to at least play one game before powering down the machine or we would have trouble getting it to power back up properly and put us to the menu screen in order to be able to play games. Well. . .my biggest fear has happened. . .don't remember anyone actually doing this but now we cannot get the game to display the menu, thus not able to play it at all.

Is there a way to reset the system inside the cabinet in order to make it run it's power up correctly?

Any help would be GREATLY appreciated. I have two small children that are totally devastated right now and I don't know a thing about how to fix it nor do I have money to do so.

Please help!!

Thanks & God Bless,

On a second glance, it looks like they no longer sell the plans, just preassembled kits.

Thank you Jeff for this article. Great info. I've been a MAME fan for year and just recently decided to start planning a MAME cabinet build using my X-arcade Tankstick. Very exciting. Your site is only one of two (that I've found) that address doing it this way. Mameroom Designs doesn't seem to be selling X-arcade cabinet designs anymore. Any thoughts on where I might find the plans for such a kit? ;)

If you get bubbles, all is not lost. You can get rid of them using a pin - make a tiny hole at the edge of the bubble with the sharpest pin you can find, and massage it out. Don't use this as an excuse to haphazard in sticker application! Bubble free is worth bragging about!

You can download the control panel overlay at:

http://www.jeffsarcade.net/Downloads/gt-panel.ai

Right click on the link above and choose to save the file. Remember, this was created to specifically fit my control panel, so modification may need to be done for it to fit yours.

Jess, as soon as I find the file for my control panel, I'll send it to you (I've checked three of my computers now with no luck. Still have one more to check). It's in Adobe Illustrator format if that works for you.

Matt, another option for you would be a XXX-1 board. It's Jamma like the Silver Strike. You could put a 2 in 1 Jamma switcher in the cabinet and switch between the Silver Strike and XXX-1 board. You'd have to modify the control panel to include additional joysticks and buttons.

Matt, good luck on your cabinet build. You'll want to check out http://wiki.arcadecontrols.com. They have everything you need. Yes, you'll want to run a separate PC in the cabinet for MAME. How you interface it and switch back and forth kinda depends on your preference. Start your research and let me know your thoughts.
