All American Football - All That’s Left Is Molding

I managed to free some time last weekend to do a bit of work on the All American Football cabinet. Other than new t-molding, this project is about done. I spent about an hour cleaning then reattaching all of the joysticks, spring sticks and buttons. The buttons will eventually get replaced but the old ones will work fine for now. I’d like them to at least be the same color!  Per a request in another thread, I’ve got some closeups of each joystick hole cutout:

Control Panel Underside Control Panel Reinstalled Player 1 Joystick Closeup
Player 1 Spring Stick Closeup Player 2 Joystick Closeup Player 2 Spring Stick Closeup
Player 3 Joystick Closeup Player 4 Joystick Closeup Running Game

As stated previously, the cutouts were all made with a sharp x-acto knife. I changed blades every two holes just to make sure it was nice and sharp. A few of the sticks, particularly on the right side of the panel are slightly off center with the markings, but no more than the original sticks were.

Once the control panel was reattached, I was finally able to enter the diagnostics mode of the game.  If you look at the last picture, you’ll see that the image doesn’t look that good.  I also noticed in attract mode that the end zone areas were black, something I thought was not right.  I fired up the game in MAME and confirmed this (one of the benefits of having a MAME cabinet).  One of the diagnostic modes shows red, blue and green swatches and I noticed that the red was not present.  I found the red drive on the monitor turned all the way down.  I spent about 20 minutes perfecting the red, blue and green drives and the game now looks great.

All that’s left for this game is new t-molding.  It’s going to be a few weeks before I get any ordered so stay tuned.
